Rant + Rose Petal + Sketch Dump

Why the heck do I keep getting so many darn spam comments? Does anyone else have this problem? I really don't believe you when you tell me this post was very helpful to you for your college assignment. I also don't need to know how to make money fast. And it really annoys me having to go through all the comments and delete them one by one. UGH!!!!! Do I have to change my settings now? So people will have to type the word they see before they can post a comment? I guess so....

OY! SO ANNOYING!

Well anyway, back to art.

This poor little Rose Petal sketch sat around for a LONG TIME. I drew her at the same time I drew Iris and Sunny.... which was a while ago. I have a crap load of unfinished drawings all sitting in a folder and I thought I should probably start finishing some of them off and being done with them finally. So here's one.

This drawing came about because I got an awesome Alphonse Mucha book from the bargain books rack at Barnes and Noble. So I got inspired and wanted to draw something pretty like he does..... well..... it didn't work. I just drew this. It was supposed to be Hippolyta (Wonder Woman's mom) holding the baby Diana (Wonder Woman) and the baby's blanket turned into the golden lasso which became the border and was all fancy like. Needless to say I didn't like it. So I tried to redraw the same general idea. My focus this time was just on making a better drawing. I got this:

I didn't like it much either, so I tried again:

Still don't like it. Oh well. Maybe next time.

I think the first Mucha-inspired drawing looks absolutely beautiful - I'd love to see it finalized. Not that the other ones don't look lovely as well! ;)

Also, I LOVED the WW animated movie, and can't wait to see the Justice League one.

Best,
J.

I think you drawings came out beautifully. My favorite thing about your drawings is that you capture so much character in the gesture. I wish my best drawings looked like that.

About the spam thing another animators blog I follow has a setting where he has to approve the comment before it is posted for the public to see. Hope that helps.

I'm going to have to get my hands on some of those books I think...

Beautiful drawings, makes me want to draw something pretty.

I've also had that spam problem when I had an animation blogspot account - apparently someone thought I'd really like to buy cheap drugs... If it makes it easier for you then I don't mind having to prove I'm human so I can comment. :) hope the spam reduces.

holy crap, lauren, these are amazing! i can appreciate the idea that an artist can sometimes never be satisfied with a project, but really, these sketches look fantastic!

I love the Rose Petal! Brought back some memories from my childhood, just seeing her again.

Your Mucha inspired drawing is AMAZING- and it's just in sketch mode, if you finish it, it will be spectacular!

love the sketches, and the Crisis on two worlds was really well done.
I particularly thought the the character design flowed really well.

The drawings are nice, particularly the sensitivity in the handling of the hair with the line work in the 2nd image from the top.

I was going to say that you should use the word verification feature, to avaid the spider-bot invasion, but it looks like you are already using it.

I get those annoying spams too! And strangely lots of requests to look at shoes sites!

Love Rose Petal. I like the last pic of Hippolyta and Diana. Hope you'll get back to it soon!

nice drawings, Lauren. I like them, I guess it just depends on what story you are trying to tell with it.

You did a great job with those sketches. She looks pretty noble for me and I thought that it was related to wonder woman.
